Cakes
Cake Boss is an awesome show. It's inspired my sisters and I to try our hands decorating cakes with fondant. Our first attempt was several years ago and rather weak. However, I have recently discovered a simple recipe for marshmallow fondant, which is much easier to work with.
MARCH 2013
First, I practiced by turning a very small egg-shaped cake into an elephant. Unfortunately I did not take a good picture of it when it was fully assembled, but it turned out very cute.
Next, my sister and I practiced a little more, this time making what we've come to call "Dirty Pig Cakes" and some experimental cupcake toppers.
Finally, I made a birthday cake for my elephant-loving sister. The colors and piping pattern were inspired by a quilt that my mother made. For my first attempt at a fondant-covered square, I think it turned out pretty well!
And this is my golden retriever's handiwork. She got a hold of the practice elephant and went to town on it. I curse the day she got tall enough to reach the counter top. Nothing is safe!
